The third Hessian Brandschutztag [Fire Protection Day] attracted 350 participants from planning and management sectors to Neu-Isenburg. Prof. Dr. Ing. Ulrich Dietmann, Managing Director of KREBS+KIEFER Ingenieure GmbH, was the moderator of the event in which he explained the current challenges facing the sector of preventive fire protection.

Reforms in the Hessian fire protection and construction laws were the topic of the day, including debates about affordable living space and redensification tendencies in metropolitan areas. Explanations were given about the actual changes resulting from the new Hessian Building Regulations. The conclusion of all involved is: “The devil is in the details!”

Explanations regarding preventive fire protection in Germany, Hesse and Frankfurt stated that certain country specific requirements exist for highrise buildings, such as for fire safe stairwells and façades made of non-combustible materials. Furthermore, all highrise building facades have to be checked by a building inspection team. The preventive approach to fire protection in Germany distinguishes itself through these wide-ranging specifications.

A subsequent panel discussion allowed participants to ask many questions and to re-ceive answers from the attending experts. Participants are able to benefit from the vast knowledge of the building inspection team, fire safety board, professional associations and planning companies.

Preparations for the next congress have already begun: You may want to reserve March 20, 2019 already this year for the 4th Hessian Brandschutztag – taking place again - in Neu-Isenburg.
