4th Symposium "Rehabilitation of Engineering Structures" in Nuremberg

At the 4th symposium on "Rehabilitation of Engineering Structures" in Nuremberg on 20.11.2018, which was very well attended and is now firmly established, this very topical issue for road and rail infrastructure was highlighted with various presentations from the entire field of rehabilitation. The aim is, on the one hand, to develop intelligent solutions for the rehabilitation of infrastructure and, on the other hand, to avoid damages. The Federal Government has already been setting the course for this for years and is not only promoting the replacement of existing buildings with new ones, but above all the refurbishment and upgrading of existing ones.

The first lectures dealt with the complex of topics regarding the refurbishment and upgrading of steel bridges. The handling of old steels, possibilities of strengthening components important for fatigue, and finally rehabilitation concepts for buildings with the respective procedure were presented.

Dr.-Ing. Ioannis Retzepis, executive partner of KREBS+KIEFER Ingenieure GmbH Karlsruhe, gave a lecture on the subject of "Repair of armoured concrete components". The renovation of engineering structures has become a great challenge nowadays - also because of the conservation of resources. He dealt with the current regulations and pointed out the gaps in the European harmonized standard for repair products. In view of the ECJ ruling of 16.10.2014 (Case C-100/13) Mr. Retzepis presented solutions in order to be able to act in conformity with the EU while maintaining the existing high level of safety in Germany.
