Hansabrücke Herford – Installing the box girder
On 4 August and 5 August 2016 the installation of the first two box girders of the new superstructure on Hansabrücke Herford took place, which is built as an integrated steel construction with an upper flange of semi-finished parts and in-place concrete complement.
This was preceded by a half-sided demolition of the old bridge in November 2015, upgrading of the stock abutment and the renewal of the centre pillar of the two-span bridge with the total length of 58 metres and width of 17 metres.

The first two girders of the new superstructure were prefabricated in two segments, each weighing nearly 30 tons welded to the central pillar. After trouble-free lifting of the steel girders, in the coming weeks the installation of the semi-precast slabs as well as the in-place concrete complement and the carriage way slabs will follow.
With the construction running on schedule, by April 2017 over 14,000 vehicles will be crossing the bridge every day.
At the cost of nearly EUR 3mn KREBS+KIEFER Berlin is responsible for the project, carried out under the construction management and supervision of Mr Dr.-Ing. Gastmeyer, Mr M. Sc. Franke and Mr Dipl.-Ing. (FH) M. Sc. Schurwanz.
