Light show on the TaunusTurm site in Frankfurt am Main
Tishman Speyer Properties Deutschland GmbH took part in the Luminale 2012 lighting culture festival in Frankfurt am Main with a light show over the site of the TaunusTurm tower.
"Lichtvision" developed a light object based on a concept by the Norwegian light designer Laura Bernadet. The object consists of a three-dimensional Y-shaped steel structure made of box profiles supporting C-profiles that project like wings, to which fluorescent tubes are fixed.

"Lichtvision" developed a light object based on a concept by the Norwegian light designer Laura Bernadet. The object consists of a three-dimensional Y-shaped steel structure made of box profiles supporting C-profiles that project like wings, to which fluorescent tubes are fixed.
During the day, the light object, named "TaunusTurm Spirit" is fixed into a steel substructure consisting of crossed HEB- profiles to which steel plates are welded. Six additional struts and columns are required to safely support the structure due to its own weight and the expected wind loads.
In the evening, after darkness, the light object is raised by a crane to a height of ca. 30 m where it floats, seemingly weightless, above the site of the future 170 m high office tower on Neue Mainzer Straße. In a slightly abstract form, the white lines of the object give an indication of how the top of the completed tower will look.
Many visitors agreed that this was a successful contribution to this year’s Luminale.
KREBS+KIEFER Darmstadt was responsible for checking the structural design of this unusual project and for construction supervision. The checking engineer was Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Günter Ernst.
