On October 13, 2017, the global technology leader ZEISS announced that more than 300 million euros would be invested in a new location in Jena.
More than 170 years ago, the foundation stone for the company's development was laid here. As early as at the end of the 19th century, ZEISS played a pioneering role, being the first company capable of producing microscopes with precalculated properties.
The decision for the concept was preceded by an urban ideas competition. The architectural firm Nething was able to win this competition. The new building will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology and thus offers the best prerequisites for ZEISS to remain a pioneer in the optical and optoelectronic industry. To this end, ZEISS is bringing its local units together at one single location in order, for example, to establish closer networking with suppliers and partners. In total, approx. 80,000 m² of usable space will be realized, providing space for up to 2500 workplaces. The site consists of parts of the former SCHOTT site, some of which are now unused. Soon it will be the ground for new ideas, growth opportunities, talent promotion and research.
KREBS+KIEFER has been commissioned with the fire protection for this mega-project. We are pleased to contribute to the realization of the visions for the new location in Jena.
