Opening ceremony in Frankfurt am Main - DomRömer area is accessible again!
For a long time, construction fences, high scaffolding, container parks and various construction equipment on the approximately 7000 m² area between St Bartholomew Cathedral and the Römerberg in Frankfurt am Main characterized the image of the inner city. The goal of the ex-tensive construction work was reconstruction of the old town destroyed by bombing in World War II. KREBS+KIEFER was able to contribute to the success of this project with several ser-vices at once and thus give a piece of its history back to the city of Frankfurt.

The Technical Town Hall had to make way for the 35 new buildings, which include 15 recon-structions. Construction of the underground parking garage and the subsequent reconstruction followed its demolition in 2010.
After a building period of about three and a half years, the site fence was opened on 9 May 2018 and the area was released to the public.
“We are giving its heart and soul back to the city”, Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann said. The opening at the Hühnermarkt in front of the historic Friedrich Stolze fountain was carried out by symbolic cutting of the barrier tape. In addition to DomRömer GmbH management, representatives from politics and business were present as well as architects, specialist planners, construction compa-nies and craftsmen.
After the festive opening, the invited guests used the opportunity to explore the new buildings under bright sunshine. Everywhere, there are numerous beautiful details from earlier times to admire, because no two buildings are alike. At the same time, the last site fence sections were dismantled in the background to also create site access at that point. The last building work should be complete in late summer so the new district can be ceremonially opened in the course of three planned days.
The foundation of the new old town, the two-storey parking garage under the new area, was handled by KREBS+KIEFER in service phases: 6 to 9. Thus, the basis for the architectural building work was laid between 2011 and 2014. We were also able to take part in tender man-agement, since several awards within the DomRömer project were supervised and successfully completed between 2011 and 2014.
KREBS+KIEFER was also engaged as a specialist planner in the area of building logistics for the above-ground structures in the years from 2012 to 2018. Despite the tight space conditions, coordination of resources was planned and implemented using a detailed construction logistics concept. In the process, we provided DomRömer GmbH with additional support in the areas of health and safety.
