High-speed railway bridges Taichung, Taiwan
The three steel truss bridges are located on the 350 km long high-speed rail line from the capital Taipei in the north to the industrial centre around Kaohsiung in the south of the island. Since Taiwan is frequently hit by earthquakes, the bridges are founded on one-and-a-half-metre thick bored piles that reach down to a depth of 50 metres.
