Lift bridge Mittersill, Austria
The Mittersill lift bridge in the town centre takes the B165 over the river Salzach. The river is canalised in the town. During floods, the existing bridge impeded the water flow and if debris became jammed, caused the water upstream to rise. This meant there was an immediate risk of flooding the town of Mittersill. For this reason, a lift bridge was planned for flood discharge. If a flood occurs, the bridge can be raised by 1.80 m and the water in the canal can flow freely.
