As part of the preparations for the Building Cultures Report 2020/21 "Public Spaces", the Federal Foundation for the Culture of Building organized three workshops. After Weimar/Erfurt and Cologne, the third workshop focusing on "Democracy and Process Culture" took place in Ulm on 4-5 July 2019.
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus, the rooms of the Ulm School of Design, which were designed by Max Bill, opened in 1953 and renovated in keeping with their historic status, provided a worthy setting for three workshop tables with discussion forums. With the participation of experts from planning, administration and politics, some information and recommendations for the building cultures report were developed.
In this context, KREBS+KIEFER and Knight Architects had the opportunity to present Ulm's new Kienlesberg Bridge, which, in addition to its transport function as a civil engineering structure, also offers a new public space to linger. In the course of an architectural tour, Batlomieij Halaczek (Knight Architects) explained the design ideas and related realizations. In the subsequent workshop discussion, he and Prof. Dr. Jan Akkermann (KREBS+KIEFER) presented some project background information as a basis for discussion.
