On Monday 5th March, everyone involved in the construction of the Feuerbach tunnel celebrated the breakthrough of the tunnelling (outer shell) of the 2,560m long west tunnel. Up to 200 people were employed at the tunnel construction site. The engineers of KREBS + KIEFER made their contribution towards the success of this intermediate stage as auditors and with their authorisation to submit building documents.
Named after its inspiration, the "Selmatunnel" has had its official name "Tunnel Feuer-bach" since the breakthrough.
With the breakthrough of the first tunnel in the Feuerbach tunnel, around 10 km of the 14 km tunnelling for the two above-mentioned tunnels to be bored has been complet-ed since the tunnel attack in December 2014. The next breakthrough is planned in around half a year, the breakthrough for the east tunnel of the Feuerbach tunnel (re-maining tunnelling around 300 m).
The Feuerbach tunnel connects the Stuttgart Feuerbach station in the north to the fu-ture Stuttgart central station. In the roughly 200 m long Kriegsberg branch-off con-struction, which to the south is directly connected to the central station, the two indi-vidual tunnels of the tunnels Bad Cannstatt and Feuerbach are merged. These then run in four tracks in a large cavern in the central station.
The construction of the inner shells as final support elements has already begun in the completed tunnelling Areas.
